Technologiepark Ruhstorf

Insights of the project

The former Siemens production site in Ruhstorf an der Rott was closed and converted into an innovative and future-oriented technopark in which both large and small start-up companies can rent space for offices, production and storage. As part of Kai Weist’s dissertation, the entire site was developed into a consolidated 3D BIM model based on 2D drawings and a laser scan point cloud. While numerous 2D plans were available for some halls and the architecture and supporting structure could thus be created realistically, there were also many halls without any planning basis. In these halls, the building volumes were modeled using a point cloud made possible by previous laser scans. The individual halls were finally combined with an environmental model to form a consolidation model in order to map the entire site.

Various other use cases and feasibility studies could be carried out using the digital twin. From the conversion and reconstruction of existing halls to the simulation and animation of certain processes such as the delivery of individual halls by truck or crane movements within the building.
